Continuing the thru-hike of the remote 90km Epynt Way, Day 2 shifts westward - deeper into the undulating heart of Mid Wales. With a valley brew to start in one of the deep Cwm's we're still under the unrelenting May sun. I press on through other steep-sided valleys and pass through the Crychan Forest, the terrain as demanding in parts as it is rewarding.

This stretch brings new stories. I meet a few kind souls whose paths cross mine - rare moments of connection in such a solitary place. I also explore an old chapel steeped in silence and time.

As the day wanes, the majestic Carmarthen Fans rise in the distance, their rugged outlines painting the horizon. The route may be tough, but with every climb comes a view, and every descent a sense of progress.

In camp, it’s the unexpected wildlife encounters that truly define this leg: sudden, striking, and unforgettable, one inspires awe as I arrive at camp.

This is a section of the Epynt Way full of contrast - human warmth, wild beauty, and the quiet resilience of a walker slowly carving west through history, memory, forest, and moorland and all with an arthritic ankle.
