The sheep have gone on strike but there's never a quiet moment on the farm. Three calves were born today instead! The last of those calves was born to a first time mother and due to the calf not being presented properly in the birth canal, she needed quite a bit of help to get it out.
The calf was lying on it's side which (in my non-medical opinion) meant that pressure was not being applied to the correct parts of the cow, internally, and therefore she was not being stimulated to contract and push the calf out. Therefore, I had to firstly reposition the calf and even then the cow did not really start to contract so I had to pull the calf out by hand.
