When Stokowski signed up to Decca's "Phase 4 Stereo" system, he recorded a number of works that had never been in his repertoire before. " The Four Seasons" was one of them and in 1966, at the age of 84, he conducted a Vivaldi work for the first time in his long career. The "Winter" section is being uploaded in December, to match the prevailing temperature! ... It consists of three short movements for strings and harpsichord continuo, with Hugh Bean splendidly playing the solo violin part. It has been issued on 'Cala' Records and also in the Stokowski Complete "Phase 4 Stereo" Decca Boxed Set.
The three movements are as follows:
