The Goa State Impact Assessment Authority (GSIAA) has reportedly termed the technical report submitted by the Assolna Panchayat on the proposed jetty as illegal, intensifying the controversy surrounding the project. Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral stated that trees have already been removed and there is no proper road infrastructure for the project. He asserted that two jetties cannot be allowed, claiming that one proposal has been withdrawn and that efforts will be made to force the scrapping of the second jetty as well. “Our demand is the scrapping of the jetty,” he said. Meanwhile, residents from Curchorem staged a protest at the Town and Country Planning Department Goa office in Panaji against the proposed multi-berth coal cargo jetty at Xelvona and Hodar. The protest, led by the Assolda Village Panchayat along with local residents, highlighted concerns over environmental and health impacts. Protesters warned that coal dust from the handling operations could spread up to 10 kilometres, potentially affecting nearby villages, farms, and livelihoods.
