In this episode of the Garden State Film Festival Podcast, the team goes behind the scenes of the festival kickoff with a powerful new documentary exploring Monmouth County’s role in the American Revolution.

Hosts sit down with Monmouth County Clerk Christine Hanlon, Monmouth County Commissioner Director Tom Arnone, and filmmaker Atom Worth to discuss the making of Monmouth County at War: Rebels, Raiders, and Revolution. Created in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, the film uncovers the dramatic and often overlooked stories of the Revolutionary War right here in Monmouth County.

From British-controlled Sandy Hook to the fierce fighting surrounding the Battle of Monmouth, the conversation reveals how neighbor fought neighbor, loyalists sought refuge behind enemy lines, and everyday communities were transformed into battlegrounds.

The panel also shares how three years of research, historian interviews, archival discoveries, and immersive reenactments brought this story to life. Along the way, they reflect on the power of documentary filmmaking to preserve local history, engage younger audiences, and ensure that the stories of Monmouth County continue to be told for generations.
