A lung cancer drug that could save or extend the lives of 1000 Australians will have its cost slashed in the new year going from $90,000 per year to as low as $6.60 per script.
The drug known as Tagrisso only works for those who have the EGFR mutation found in lung cancer but it will be added to the pharmaceutical benefits scheme on the first of January.
The hope for these medications is to turn the life threatening cancers into chronic illnesses and this is the first step in finding a more effective treatment.
