From the revolts of the two Bardases to the final subjugation of Bulgaria, this video explores the territorial expansion and changes of the Roman Empire during Basil’s principate.
Born in 958, Basil was crowned co-emperor in 960 by his father, Emperor Romanos II. The years from 960 to 976 are intentionally left out here, as Basil was still a child, and the reigns of Romanos II, Nikephoros II, and John merit their own dedicated exploration.
Although Basil technically ruled jointly with his brother Constantine, the latter is not shown, as in practice he did nothing and stayed away from power.
