Austin Light Rail In Serious Trouble!

A 37-story residential tower planned for 504 E. 5th Street, just one block from the future Austin Convention Center, remains alive after Austin-based Riverside purchased the property earlier this year and applied to extend the site's development approval through 2027. The approved plans include 232 apartments and preserve the historic Carmelo's Ristorante Italiano building, which dates back to the 1870s. While Riverside says it has no immediate construction plans, the move keeps the door open for another major downtown redevelopment as Austin continues investing in its urban core.
