In 2024 there was also a war, and the building where I used to work was destroyed and everything was lost. Now in 2026 the war has started again, so I went to Nabatieh and the situation was the same. Then I came here, just like what happened in 2024 as well."

11. SOUNDBITE (English) Robert Gemayel, Regional communications at JRS MENA:
“So we are at St. Joseph’s Church. This is a Jesuit church. Migrant and workers, domestic workers usually come here every Sunday for do their social and religious activities, so this is a safe space for them and they usually know this building. So, when the war started, this is the first safe place they thought of, so they came here. During the first night, at 3 a.m., we opened the church and turned it into a shelter. We started receiving and registering people. We had around 100 people waiting in the parking lot, more were sleeping in the parking. So we started registering them, now we have around 200 domestic workers in this building. Our full capacity of the shelter is 80 people, but currently we have 200. So, we are also looking for another building that we can turn into a shelter,
we are still trying to find another place because it's at full capacity now and we are also receiving more requests to join this building."
