NARRATIVE:
When you are looking to purchase a stairlift, it is important to make sure you're getting a lift that will meet your needs. There are a huge range of options on our lifts, designed to help you use the lift, prevent and obstruction and allow others continue using the stairs.
In order to get in and out of the chair at the top of the stairs, many people choose to have a manual swivel seat, where they can rotate the chair around to face the landing. This makes it safer for the user to get in and out of the chair, without risk of tripping or falling. A powered swivel is also available if you want the chair to automatically swivel you onto the landing.
When the lift is not in use, most people fold away the chair to free up space on the staircase. Footrest options are ideal for people who have difficulty bending down to fold away the footplate. To assist the user, the footrest can be fitted with a linkage, which folds the footrest away when the seat is folded. Alternatively, you can have a powered footrest which folds it away at the press of a button.
Every stairlift we supply comes with 2 remote controls, which allows anyone to call or send the lift when they are upstairs or downstairs. It also allows you to park the lift out of the way when it is not in use.
There are several joystick options to suit your preferences and make it easier to control the stairlift. You can choose from a standard joystick, a rocker switch or an ergonomic joystick.
If you have difficulty bending your knees, a stand perch is the perfect option. It allows you to use the lift by perching on a raised seat, so you are effectively standing up as the lift carries you upstairs.
If the lift is for a young child and they need to be completely secure when using the stairlift, we can provide an R82 child seat. The harness keeps the user safe while the padded seat provides maximum comfort.
If you have a doorway or hallway at the bottom of the stairs, you will want to keep the floor clear of any intrusion. Our lifts can be fitted with several rail finishes designed to ensure the rail doesn't protrude when the lift is not in use. The first option is a drop nose, which is where the end of the rail drops vertically down to the floor, which minimises the space taken up by the rail. This option is only available on curved stairlifts.
The second option is to have a folding hinge. This folds the rail away when the lift is not in use. The hinge can either fold up, or down. An alternative to this is a sliding hinge which tucks under the rail.
If there is enough space at the top or bottom of the stairs, we may recommend a parking bend. This brings the lift round to a space clear of the stairs, either for convenience or so you can safely get on and off away from the stairs.
If you have a very tight stairs and the space at the top or bottom is not suitable to park the stairlift, we can also fit a designated parking point, so the lift can be parked in a more convenient space on the stairs.
Our surveyor will consider all of these options when carrying out the survey and advise you on the best solution to meet your needs.
