Without traffic, Grand Baie is a 35 mins drive and 28km from Port louis.
Before or During the Dutch Occupation in 1638 , Grand Baie was first named De Bogt Eyndt Zonder ( Bay without end ).
It was also there that the British landed in 1810 as part of their invasion of Isle De France (1715-1810) which Mauritius was called at that time during the French Occupation.
