Описание: In 1975, in response to growing concerns over abuses of power by the U.S. intelligence community, the Church Committee was formed to investigate abuses by the CIA, NSA, FBI, and the IRS. Officially called the "United States Senate Select Committee to Study Governmental Operations with Respect to Intelligence Activities," it was led by Senator Frank Church of Idaho. The Church Committee's findings exposed a range of covert operations and abuses, including wiretapping of political figures, surveillance of civil rights groups, and assassination plots against foreign leaders. Its work ultimately led to significant reforms aimed at increasing oversight and accountability of U.S. intelligence agencies.
