Hiking on Mount Lygkos during a snowstorm. We started from “Stani Tiza” near the main road to Valia Kalda. The weather at lower altitudes close to the city of Grevena shifted between clouds and sunshine but as we gained height, the mountain revealed a completely different face—strong winds, falling snow, and a vast white wilderness.
Our goal was to reach the alpine lake “Lakkos Avgou.” Step by step through frozen slopes and demanding terrain, we pushed higher into the storm, surrounded by the raw beauty of the Pindus range. But as the conditions became more severe, we decided to seek shelter at Apostolina’s sheep shed, a welcome landmark in the snowy landscape and a reminder of the mountain’s long pastoral tradition, before safely turning back.

Round hike 7km, starting point: “Stani “Tiza” between Vovousa and Perivoli villages, ending point “Apostolinas” sheep shed, total ascent 350m, min elevation 1.550m, max elevation 1.900m
