Scotland may be known for its incredible scenery, ancient landscapes, and historic attractions but did you also know that our natural features and unyielding terrain make the perfect conditions for an outdoor adventure or two?
Across Scotland you can get in touch with your wild side and join in an adrenaline-pumping adventure. One of our most popular activities is mountain biking. The south of Scotland is home to eight 7Stanes Mountain Biking Centres where you can explore their award-winning trails that offer some of the best mountain biking experiences in the country. Choose from Glentress, Kirroughtree, Forest of Ae, Mabie, Dalbeattie, Glentrool, Newcastleton and Innerleithen, which all boast trails, paths and experiences suitable for people of all ages and abilities.
There are many outdoor activity centres up and down the country that offer many activities and experiences that will create memories to last a lifetime. At Laggan Outdoors in Dumfries & Galloway, you can get all the thrills and adrenaline you need by joining in activities such as the zip wire, water balling, archery, clay pigeon shooting and more.
Near Glencoe, Onich is a fantastic place to explore the outdoors. With incredible landscapes, coastal locations and activity centres nearby, you won’t be lost for something to do. Test your metal as you try out a variety of watersports, including coasteering, gorge walking, canyoning, white water rafting and surfing. Or if you prefer to stay on dry land, why not try out go karting, quad biking, bungee jumping or paintball, to name a few?
Of course, adventure in Scotland wouldn’t be complete without a bit of snow. Skiing and snowboarding are up there with some of the most adrenaline-fuelled sports you can find, and it’s no surprise – whizzing down a mountain side on icy, fresh snow – what’s not to love! Glenshee, Glencoe, Nevis Range, and The Lecht each make the most of Scotland’s winter weather and surf the slopes whilst taking in the mesmerising scenery around you. Or if you are new to the world of snowsports, Snow Factor in Glasgow is a great place to learn the ropes on indoor slopes with lessons on offer too.
Or if you’d rather surf the waves on our spectacular coastlines, head to Coldingham Bay in the Scottish Borders for one of the most popular surfing locations in Scotland. Just north of Eyemouth, this bay is home to some extraordinary swells, as well as being a wonderful place for some seaside strolls and exploring.
Twice the size of the Lake District, the Cairngorms National Park is home to more lochs, forests, rivers, wildlife hotspots, and mountains than you can fathom. All of these fantastic features make it the perfect place for some adventure. Enjoy a range of watersports on the shores of Loch Morlich or Loch Insch, cycle through the trails and paths of Rothiemurchus Estate, or clamber up one of the many Munros, including Cairn Gorm, Ben Macdui, Braeriach and Cairn Toul.
