From mocking European leaders for making the continent ‘unrecognisable’ to confusing Greenland with Iceland several times, the US President’s speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos left many bewildered. Still, for the European officials listening anxiously to the president’s remarks on Greenland, his ruling out the use of military force to seize the Arctic island has seen a huge sigh of relief.
After two days of leaders speaking to the world from the WEF podium, what stood out to many was the message from powers like France and Canada saying they won’t capitulate to ‘bullying’ from the US and urging fellow middle powers to come together. So, where are the key geopolitical relations heading judging from the complicated landscape on display in Davos? And could the US hegemony be challenged?
