Developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries, KAAN is designed as a stealth, twin engine multirole combat aircraft capable of air superiority and deep strike missions.

The latest prototype features design refinements, stealth shaping and advanced indigenous sensors including infrared search and track and electro optical targeting systems. However, the aircraft is still in the prototype phase and is not combat ready.

Türkiye is currently using American made engines for testing, while its own indigenous engine remains under development and could take years to become operational.

The first fully integrated prototype is expected to begin flight testing in 2026, with operational deployment likely to take significantly longer.

KAAN’s development also has geopolitical implications. Türkiye’s close defence ties with Pakistan could raise concerns for India if the fighter is eventually exported.
