The 28 Preludes by Frédéric Chopin constitute an exquisite collection of miniature piano pieces. Each work is like a character piece, capturing a momentary image or emotion. They can be played alone, or placed in sets to contrast each other.
Although Chopin did not title the preludes himself, many artists throughout the years have given them interesting nicknames. From the famous pianist Alfred Cortot and the distinguished conductor Hans von Bülow:
No. 1 - Cortot: "Feverish anticipation of loved ones" / Bülow: "Reunion"
No. 3 - Cortot: "The singing of the stream" / Bülow: "Thou Art So Like a Flower"
No. 6 - Cortot: "Homesickness" / Bülow: "Tolling bells"
No. 8 - Cortot: "The snow falls, the wind screams, and the storm rages; yet in my sad heart, the tempest is the worst to behold" / Bülow: "Desperation"
Enjoy :)
