Four stolen 17th Century oil paintings found in an abandoned farmhouse

Police in Italy found four stolen oil paintings, all painted in the 1600s, in good condition in an abandoned farmhouse surrounded by dense brush in Zagarolo, near Rome. The paintings were part of a collection of five pieces stolen during a daring heist at a hotel in Rome in 2001 by an armed team. The recovered works are valued at approximately €200,000, which is equivalent to about US$230,000. All of the stolen works depict religious scenes and police are trying to trace the farmhouse to determine how they got there and where the missing fifth painting is. The Carabinieri is working with the Antiques Section of the Cultural Heritage Protection unit. They were found on Oct. 17, 2018.
