This is my homemade oil tank maple sap evaporator that was built in one afternoon from scraps.
The cut off top of the tank was shortened a bit then welded inside at an angle to direct the heat and smoke towards the stove pipe.
Yes; it's ugly from sitting outside several years but it works great.
The pan is probably 40 or 50 years old, it is tin with welded corners, approx. 3' x 5'
I use 4 long tractor chain springs and hooks to hold the pan down tightly.
with some coal added to the fire ( a pail in at a time) and the blower running it will evaporate more than 10 gal per hour.
several approx. 3/16 and 1/4" copper lines are used to syphon the sap from a pail raised on a tall stool into the pan to maintain a 1" to 1 1/2" level.
The blower fits into a pipe that was once a support column in a cellar, the column has random holes to direct the air into the fire.
When I turn the blower off the boil slows a lot so the fan speeds the evaporating process a lot
