The Tech for Conservation panel discussion explored how technology, data, and innovation can strengthen wildlife protection and conservation efforts in Zambia. The discussion focused on the practical use of drones, satellite imagery, AI, and digital monitoring systems to combat wildlife crime, protect biodiversity, and support conservation operations on the ground.
Speakers shared real-world experiences from conservation areas across Zambia, highlighting how technology can improve patrol coordination, data management, early warning systems, and human–wildlife conflict mitigation, while also supporting community engagement and sustainable livelihoods.
A central theme of the panel was the importance of partnerships — between conservation organizations, government authorities, technology providers, private companies, and development partners — to ensure that conservation technologies are practical, durable, and designed with end users in mind, rather than remaining isolated or pilot-only solutions.
The discussion also addressed key challenges, including financing, regulation, capacity building, and long-term sustainability, and emphasized the need to integrate technology into everyday conservation practice to deliver measurable impact.
