Overlanding the Lost Coast - Hidden Gem of Northern California

Описание: We Finally Did It!!! We made it to the Lost Coast, California! In this episode, the final adventure from our 2022 Summer Overlanding adventure, we head down the Northern California coastline to see a few places that have been on our bucket list for a while.

We start off in Humboldt County, California where we find what is likely the last working phone booth in the United States in the town of Petrolia, California. We then stayed overnight at the A.W. Way County Park. (I incorrectly called it A.W. Arthur campground in the video... whoops).

Next we began our journey down the Lost Coast on the California Coastal Trail. Saddle Mountain Road follows a ridgeline just a few miles from the coast, leading to spectacular views in every direction. Next we make an overnight stop in Shelter Cove, the most remote coastal town in California. While there, we were able to take in coastal views of Sea Lions sunning on the rocks.

Next, we headed south to Fort Bragg, California for a day at Glass Beach. Glass Beach is a great stop with sea glass spread about from years of dumping. Cleaned up now, the smooth glass remains.

Then finally, we make our way down to Fort Ross State Historical Park. Fort Ross was the southernmost Russian settlement on the west coast. founded by the Russian American Trading Company, it served as a hub of agricultural and hunting/trapping activity. The fort is in excellent condition and is the perfect stop for history buffs wanting to learn about things like the First Windmill in California, or the Mexican American War. This fort was the first location in California to have the United States Flag raised above. The history here is worth the trip to experience.
