My Grandfather’s Song was born from a story I once told in folk clubs more than sixty years ago. As a young performer, I would speak of my grandfather—a working man who lived in a distant fishing village, where days were shaped by the sea and nights by song shared with family and friends.
On one late walk beneath the stars, he placed his arm around my shoulder and offered a simple piece of wisdom about love, devotion, and holding fast to what matters. He spoke it once, without explanation, the way truth is meant to be given.
When the story ended, I would say softly, “This is my grandfather’s song,” and sing a wordless chant—sounds shaped by breath and memory rather than language. The melody carried what words could not.
This song returns to that moment. It is not a translation, but a remembrance—a blessing passed forward, meant to be felt more than understood.
