On June 27, 2012 the Vocal Ensemble of St. Geghard Monastery was on the stage of the Special Events Auditorium of the Cafesjian Center for the Arts as part of the Cafesjian Classical Music Series.
The Ensemble consisting of 8 professional singers performed Armenian medieval sacred monodies, classical arrangements of Armenian sacred and folk songs. The overall impression from the concert was very satisfying. The Ensemble produced a sound of such sumptuous power and commitment that it is hard to find words worthy of the effect they made on the audience. The Special Events Auditorium was filled with beautiful spiritual atmosphere; the songs of the Ensemble seemed to bring the presence of the Almighty.
Besides the divine liturgies sung every Sunday at St. Geghard Monastery (IV-XIII c.), the Ensemble has also wide concert activities. Founded in 2001 by the soloist and conductor Anahit Papayan, the Geghard Vocal Ensemble presents Armenian sacred and folk choral music in Armenia and abroad.
