Today we are taking one of YOU on a bucket list adventure! We asked you on Instagram (@KineticKennons) what one of your bucket list destinations in Mexico is and chose one of you to take on a trip of a lifetime!
We found the perfect person...Carlo! Carlo really wanted to visit Progreso, Yucatán because it was his grandpa's favorite place when we was growing up. We visited Merida, Progreso, and the Cenotes Haciena Mucuyché and it was truly incredible to be able to take Carlo to a place in Mexico that was so important to his Abuelo.
--How to get to Progreso from Mexico City: There are frequent flights from CDMX to Mérida. From Mérida, you can take the ADO bus line to Progreso. Also, there are Ubers available from the city center of Mérida to the Malecon of Progreso for around $265 pesos ($14 USD). In Progreso, we visited the market right in the town center, ate delicious marquesitas on the Malecon, and visited "El Corchito" cenotes. The cenotes are a 5 minute drive outside of town. Entrance fee is $90 pesos ($4.80 USD) per person.
--More about Hacienda Mucuyché: We would highly recommend visiting this Hacienda and cenotes! They are just about one hour outside of Mérida, making it perfect for a day trip. Entrance fee is $480 pesos ($25.50 USD) per person and includes an excellent tour of the beautiful Hacienda as well as a tour of two cenotes. There is a restaurant on site that serves delicious, traditional comida Yucateca as well as a heated swimming pool situated right in the middle of the Hacienda.
--How to get there: this part seems a bit more tricky if you don't have a car. You can catch a "combi" (shared van) from Parque San Juan in the center of Mérida for $35 pesos ($1.90 USD). The schedule is NOT set for these combis--they will leave Mérida whenever they have a van full of people who want to head in that direction. It may be at 8:00am, but in our case, it may not be until 10:30am depending on demand. You can also take an Uber from Mérida to Hacienda Mucuyché which costs $600 pesos ($32 USD). Note: there are NO Ubers or taxis available to bring you back to Mérida. From the Hacienda, the only way to return to Mérida is by the combi. The staff at the Hacienda were very helpful in telling us exactly when the combi would pass by and where to wait, etc.
--Notes: You must make a reservation prior to visiting the Hacienda. You can do so through Whatsapp at 52 1 999 547 6087. Bring a towel, wear a swimsuit. Do not bring or wear sunscreen. There are lockers available for rent for an additional $30 pesos ($1.50 USD)--you can leave all of your things here while swimming in the cenotes.
