Описание: In the aftermath of the worldwide #MeToo movement against sexual harassment and assault, which spread virally in October 2017, the question many are now asking is whether that rallying cry has been converted into real-life progress. A year on from the Weinstein scandal, October 2018 offers an ideal vantage point to look back upon the successes – and failures – of the #MeToo movement.

SPEAKERS:

Proposition:

1. Ella Whelan is the assistant editor at Spiked. She frequently features as a political commentator on TV and radio, specialising in the relationship between free speech, feminism and women's liberation. Ella regularly features across British television, including appearances on SkyNews, BBC and Channel 5. She is the author of ‘What Women Want: Fun, Freedom and an End to Feminism’.

2. Kate Andrews is Associate Director at the Institute of Economic Affairs. She oversees the IEA’s Media Centre, which includes its communications, public affairs, and digital output. Kate regularly features across the national media, including appearances on BBC’s Any Questions and BBC’s Question Time. She has written for the Daily Telegraph, The Times, Spectator Coffee House, and writes a weekly column for CityAM.

3. Minna Salami is a Finnish Nigerian journalist who has propagated information on African feminist issues, about the African diaspora, and Nigerian women through her award-winning blog MsAfropolitan. She has been listed by ELLE Magazine as one of “12 women changing the world”.

Opposition:

1. Miranda Horvath is an academic at Middlesex University London. She was previously a Fellow in the Child and Woman Abuse Studies Unit at London Metropolitan University. Her research focuses on violence against women from feminist and forensic psychological perspectives.

2. Nadia Essex, a professional dating coach, is famous for match-making on Channel 4’s Celebs Go Dating show. She frequently features on Good Morning Britain and has insight into how far the #MeToo has gone in British media.
