We made a quick pit stop in Chengdu, where we met up with a friend who became our local tour guide for the day.
Right away, I noticed that the parks and streets were filled with a sense of ease — people here really know how to slow down and enjoy life. The pace is much more relaxed compared to the bigger cities.
In the heart of Chengdu, though, it’s a different story — the city center buzzes with energy, blending high-end fashion boutiques, trendy restaurants, and rich pockets of history.
Of course, we couldn’t leave without trying a classic Sichuan mala hotpot — the kind that numbs your lips and sets your mouth on fire, but somehow keeps you reaching for more. The broth was deep, rich, and loaded with spices, and every bite was an addictive explosion of flavor.
Chengdu definitely left me wanting more — I’ll be back for a deeper, longer exploration of Sichuan province.
Next stop: Kunming
