According to the investigation, Uma Bisoyi and Jogendra Raut planned the murder and brought sharp shooters from Bihar with the help of Bipin Swain from West Bengal. When Plan-A with the Bihar shooters failed, Plan-B was executed using Chintu Pradhan and Kurupati Bhuyan from Banthapalli. On the night of the crime, Chintu drove the car while Kurupati fired the gun that killed Peetabas Panda. After the murder, a dramatic hide-and-run game began to escape the police radar.
