Our system is failing children with special educational needs (SEND) In Lancashire, the council spent a staggering £2.3 million on legal fees for EHCP tribunals, part of a £43 million overspend, yet only won 1.3% of the cases.
This isn't just about money, it's about the immense human cost. When schools lack the resources and knowledge to implement an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), families are forced into stressful, damaging legal battles to get their child the support they are legally entitled to.
This is a broken system. It's inefficient, costly, and fails the very people it's supposed to protect. As a differently thinking CEO, I believe we must challenge these systemic failures and find better, more compassionate, and more effective ways to invest in our children's futures.
