Uparkot Fort, Junagadh - Part - III
The rapid progress of the restoration of the fort's precinct is well under way proceeding at full stretch. The video is comparative analysis of the condition of the fort precincts before where the dense vegetation had caused severe damages to the structures. The visuals of the video show the progress towards the end of the March month. The Porbandar limestone, a soft stone is susceptible to moisture retention and its porous nature allows the growth of ficus and algal growth making the masonry weak. It was necessary to tackle to menace of the ficus to strengthen the structures. However, the vast flora and developed trees were not harmed in order to retain the 'vanadurg' typology of the fort. The video shows the advancement of the restoration and development works which are being carried out at the site while maintaining the zero cement system. The work is well administered by the officials from the Directorate of Museum, Gujarat and the ASI, Junagadh sub-circle. The restoration is focusing chiefly on the structural and fabric restoration along with the development of the tourist’s facilities which will enhance the visitor experience while abiding o the sustainability all together!
