But is this really a diplomatic win for Pakistan? Not necessarily. Here’s why: There are several counter-terrorism committees at the UNSC. All Security Council members take turns presiding over these bodies. It’s more a matter of rotation than recognition.
Denmark will chair the 1267 ISIL (Da’esh) and Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee in 2025.
Algeria will lead the 1373 Counter-Terrorism Committee. So, as long as Pakistan is on the Security Council, this kind of “privilege” might come their way. Yes, another UNSC’s disturbing irony.
