In Lahj Governorate, Yemen, many families face immense challenges to secure daily income and provide food for their children. Huda’s story reflects this struggle.
She began selling snacks and small items from her home with little profit, relying on her son’s help whenever he wasn’t working at sea. Life was difficult, with every meal depending on her modest earnings.
With support from the World Food Programme (WFP) and CARE, Huda joined the Food-for-Training (FFT) program. Alongside 100 other households, she received training in small business development, financial literacy, and marketing, and a start-up grant to build her livelihood.
Thanks to this support, Huda was able to rent a shop, stock it with goods, and even purchase a refrigerator powered by solar energy to meet customer demand for cold water. Her grocery business has grown, giving her hope to expand further and secure a brighter future for her family.
