Jubileumconcert: 40 jaar organist | 40th anniversary as an organist recital

Описание: Opname van het concert dat plaatsvond op 10 juni 2023 in de Lutherse Kerk te Den Haag.
Ik speelde toen muziek die in de afgelopen 40 jaar een belangrijke rol heeft gespeeld in mijn muzikale ontwikkeling.

00:03 'Komt als kinderen van het Licht' (F. Asma)
Ik begin met mijn kindertijd en toen had ik twee idolen, namelijk Willem Hendrik Zwart en Feike Asma. Van laatstgenoemde speel ik een fantasie over "Komt als kind'ren van het licht”. Overigens, Feike Asma was van 1943 tot 1965 de organist van deze kerk en in die periode hebben - onder vele anderen - mijn ouders die concerten met regelmaat bezocht. Wat fijn dat zij deze middag samen mee hebben gemaakt!
06:26 'Vater unser im Himmelreich' (G. Böhm)
In 1987 nam Wim van Beek een LP op op het pas gerestaureerde orgel van de Martinikerk in Groningen. Eén van de stukken die hij toen speelde was dit 'Vater unser' van Böhm. Zoiets moois had ik nog nooit gehoord en daardoor heb ik altijd een zwak gehouden voor dit stuk.
12:08 Sonate III (F. Mendelssohn)
Omdat ik dit werk in december 1989 speelde tijdens het proefspel in de Haagse Julianakerk (waar ik met ingang van 1 januari 1990 benoemd werd), heeft dit stuk een speciale plek in mijn hart. Let vooral op de fluwelen klank van het Bätz-orgel in het Andante tranquillo. Buitengewoon mooi!
22:59 'Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen' (F. Liszt)
Dit stuk speelde ik in 2003 voor een cd die werd opgenomen in de Haagse Grote Kerk, waar zich het bijzonder mooie Metzler-orgel bevindt. In dit stuk beluisteren we klankschilderingen van allerlei emoties, zoals verdriet, woede en ongeloof. Na een grote climax verschijnt fluisterzacht en berustend de melodie van het lied “Wat God doet, dat is welgedaan.” en dat blijf ik een ontroerend moment vinden.
43:37 Processional (W. Mathias)
In diezelfde tijd (rond 2003) was ik ook helemaal weg van de muziek van William Mathias en ik heb sindsdien menig werk van deze briljante Brit gespeeld. Geniet u van zijn Processional!
47:51 Variations sur 'Ubi caritas' (Denis Bédard)
Sinds een jaar of vijftien speel ik heel graag composities van de Canadese componist Denis Bédard. U hoort zijn variaties over 'Ubi caritas'.
54:02 Passacaglia, BWV 582 (J.S.Bach)
Ten slotte gaan we terug naar augustus 1980. Met mijn ouders en broer Bram bezocht ik een concert dat Dirk Janszoon Zwart gaf. Voor mij was de Passacaglia van Bach het hoogtepunt . We hadden toen een draagbare cassetterecorder en daarmee nam ik het concert op. In de dagen daarna heb ik talloze keren naar de Passacaglia geluisterd en ik kreeg er geen genoeg van. Kortom, dit stuk gaat al 43 jaar met mij mee en het verveelt me nog steeds niet!

I start with my childhood and at the time I had two idols: Willem Hendrik Zwart and Feike Asma. From the latter I played a fantasia on the Lutheran song "Come as children of the lLght.
06:26 'Vater unser im Himmelreich' (G. Böhm)
In 1987 Wim van Beek recorded an LP on the newly restored organ of the Martini Church in Groningen. One of the pieces he played was 'Vater unser' by Böhm. I had never heard anything so beautiful, and as a result I have always kept a soft spot for this piece.
12:08 Sonata III (F. Mendelssohn)
Because I played this work in December 1989 during the trial play at the Julianakerk in The Hague (where I was appointed as organist January 1, 1990), this piece has a special place in my heart. Note especially the velvety sound of the Bätz organ in the Andante tranquillo.
22:59 'Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen" (F. Liszt)
I played this piece in 2003 for a CD recording in the Grote Kerk in The Hague. In this piece we hear sound paintings of all kinds of emotions, such as sadness, anger and disbelief. After a great climax, the melody of the hymn "What God does, that is well done," appears quietly and I still find that a touching moment.

At the same time (around 2003), I was completely in love with the music of William Mathias and have played many a work by this brilliant Brit ever since. Please enjoy his Processional!
47:51 Variations sur 'Ubi caritas' (D. Bédard)
For about fifteen years now, I have really enjoyed playing compositions by Canadian composer Denis Bédard. This time I played his variations on 'Uni caritas'.
54:02 Passacaglia, BWV 582 (J.S. Bach)
Finally, we go back to August 1980. With my parents and brother Bram I attended a concert by Dirk Jansz. Zwart and for me the highlight was Bach's Passacaglia. At that time we had a portable cassette recorder and with that device I recorded the concert. In the days after it I listened to the Passacaglia countless times and couldn't get enough of it. In short, this piece has travelled with me for 43 years and it still doesn't bore me!
