For years, communities along the banks of the Chixoy River lived in isolation, relying on canoes to cross and access healthcare, education, markets, and basic services.
During the rainy season, this crossing posed a real risk for hundreds of families. This video shows the construction of the vehicular bridge over the Chixoy River. Measuring 272.75 meters in length and built using the balanced cantilever method, it will connect the Los Pajales–Cubulco corridor, directly benefiting more than 20,000 people and indirectly impacting over 100,000.
