Rossini: Barbiere di Siviglia: “Largo al Factorum” by Lawrence Tibbett 1930
Recorded at Liederkranz Hall in New York April 15, 1930 and conducted by Nathaniel Shilkret. This record is fantastic. As good as Tibbett ever sounded and the record itself is one of the cleanest I own. Even non Opera lovers will love this one. It is a famous aria used in cartoons and spoofs for generations, it is simply fun to listen to. All that super fast Italian and then towards the end it accelerates to a seemingly impossible tempo which Tibbett handles with ease. I am not sure I have ever heard a better performance of this aria. I enjoyed transferring this record more than most others for some time.
