Energy demand in India is likely to continue increasing in the next decades, post-Covid, as the population and economy grows and electrification rates rise. Coal power supplies more than 70% of electricity in India and there are massive coal reserves, so it will continue to be used to meet this demand, alongside the pledges for 400 GW of renewable capacity by 2030. However, the Indian coal fleet emitted 1.1 GtCO2 in 2019, and many parts of India suffer from poor air quality, partly due to emissions of pollutants from the coal stations. This webinar shows how India can continue to use its coal reserves to power a growing economy, while reducing emissions of CO2 and improving air quality.
