"Smashes to Ashes" - By playing many live concerts with musician / visual artist / my wife Rachel, I had the possibility and joy to literally see my music. To understand how melodies and rhythms, sequences and frequencies translate and transpose into lines, patterns, colors and forms. It is something that fascinates me in a jaw dropping way.
The original idea to „Smahes to Ashes“ was to create music that influences and triggers Rachel‘s visual organisms in an unexpected, more amplified and even more extreme way – by leaving space between the drum hits and notes and by creating stark dynamic contrasts and breaking structures - smashing them into pieces.
Ultimately, „Smashes to Ashes“ turned out to be one of the two cornerstone tracks of my new album "Dear Future" (https://hhnoi.bandcamp.com/album/dear...) that sparked the idea to mess with the relation between expectations and time.
This version was recorded in June 2020 as part of the Modularfield label showcase at Club Bahnhof Ehrenfeld, Köln.
