Members of the women’s wing of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) staged a protest in Cuttack’s Barabati area against the recent rise in LPG (cooking gas) prices and the ongoing gas cylinder shortage that has impacted household kitchens. Long lines of people have been reported at gas agencies as the supply disruption continues across the state.

The protest saw over a hundred women gather with placards and empty LPG cylinders, symbolically expressing their frustration. To dramatise the burden of rising fuel costs, the demonstrators even lit traditional stoves (chulhas) on the road and attempted to cook, highlighting how price hikes and supply gaps are making it difficult for ordinary families to manage daily meals. They also accused the government of failing to protect women and households from the impact of rising cooking fuel expenses.

The demonstration drew support from various local citizens, and Cuttack Mayor Subas Singh joined the protest, condemning what he described as the central government’s inaction on stabilising LPG prices and ensuring adequate supply for consumers.
