"Fleur de la nuit / Tristesse est son nom /Elle s' ouvre à minuit / Elle apaise mon âme / La nourrit comme l'amour / Fleur de minuit / Epines des roses / Esprits des nuits / Je danse avec elle / Jusqu'à l'heure ou la nuit blanchit / Effleuré par la lumière / Irisée de l'aube / Je danse avec toi/ Jusqu'à l'aurore
I wrote this song around 2004 when I was working all night to make new music. The basic inspiration came from the poem ‘Demain, Dès l’Aube’ by Victor Hugo, which I heard for the first time when I was 18. I was an artistic pretentious girl then. My biggest ambition in life at that time was to die in water.
'Danse Avec La Tristesse' expresses my love for the dawn (l’ aube), a very important & magical moment for me – as much as dusk is. It also expresses my feelings of one-sided, unrequited love to music. This love will never be fully accomplished – music has never loved me back as much as I hoped for – but I could never stop loving it."

You might've noticed her name on the 'It's a Crammed Crammed World! 2' compilation on Crammed Discs, which was followed by her 'La Débutante' lp (produced by Colin Newman and Aksak Maboul) and one 7", but then came the big void. Sonoko continued to live and study in Paris for a good while, but when her music career didn't take off the way she'd intended it to, she moved back to homebase Kyoto. And if it wasn't for Jan Van den Broeke (STRLP-005), we would never have heard of her again.
