Karnataka LPG Crisis: Auto Drivers Stuck in Long Queues, Govt Flags Fuel Shortage

Описание: A severe auto LPG shortage has triggered chaos across Bengaluru and several districts of Karnataka, bringing autorickshaw services to a near standstill and forcing drivers into long queues at fuel stations.

K. H. Muniyappa, Karnataka’s Food and Civil Supplies Minister, has convened a high-level meeting at 10:30 AM today to address the crisis. He has also written to Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, seeking urgent priority allocation of auto LPG for the state.

Muniyappa alleged that Karnataka is facing a “step-motherly attitude” in fuel distribution, while neighbouring states reportedly remain unaffected. He pointed to a major price gap between PSU and private LPG suppliers as a key reason behind the disruption.

According to officials, public sector outlets like IOC, BPCL, and HPCL are selling auto LPG at around ₹89.52 per litre, while private suppliers have raised prices to between ₹110 and ₹135 per litre. This sharp difference has led to overcrowding at government fuel stations and widespread disruption for auto drivers who depend on daily fuel access.

The government has also warned of strict action against black marketing and illegal hoarding as it moves to stabilise supply and restore normal transport services.
