VEGA radar sensors of type VEGAPULS C 21 are used to measure the flow of water taken from the Tennacola tributary. The water, extracted directly from the source, is very good water in terms of its organic, chemical and physical properties: In fact, the water from the Tennacola has a quality comparable to some of the best mineral waters on the market. Tennacola water is so clean and pure because it comes from natural springs located in pristine environments upstream, where there are no developments or other human activities. The spring water flows into a settling basin, then into a water reserve tank. It eventually enters the supply tank via a trapezoidal weir, where flow is measured by level change in proportion to the flow rate.

Highly accurate monitoring of the changes in level allows the flow rate of the extracted water to be measured correctly at all times. Calculation of the instantaneous flow rate and total flow volume is done by using a level to flow rate curve, which is programmed into a VEGAMET 861 controller.

Installing and commissioning the sensor is easy, because it measures without physical contact with the medium. It comes already equipped with a cable and IP68 protection. Calibrating the sensor and uploading the weir linearisation curve is also straightforward, as this is carried out via a smartphone and the VEGA Tools app, which even provides a calculator for pre-defined flow-curves for standard flumes and weirs from dimensional input.
