Investigators work to learn cause of deadly house fire in Delhi

Описание: DELHI, Ohio (WKRC)- A family is grieving and investigators are working to learn what started a deadly fire in Delhi.

The house in the 400 block of Samoht Ridge Road off Delhi Ave. was the home of Lawrence and Marsha Morgan. The couple died during a fire earlier this week.

"I just came to check on my parents and I unlocked the front door and there's been a horrible fire," Josh Morgan said in his 911 call.

But none of the neighbors saw a fire. Delhi Police Lt. Joe Macaluso said the fire started in the main room of the home while the couple was in their bedroom.

Investigators say the fire is not suspicious.

Carson Towner, lives up the street a few houses. Towner and the other neighbors we talked said they did not know the couple very well.

"Occasionally they'd be walking or you'd see them in their yard mowing, doing yard work, stuff like that," Towner said.

Towner said he didn't know what was going on when he saw fire trucks and police vehicles in front of the house Tuesday afternoon.

"I went down and asked, cause you know, it's a small neighborhood. You kind of get worried about that kind of stuff. So, I went down there and asked and they said it was a deadly house fire but there's no signs of it. It didn't really look like it from what I could see," Towner said.

There's no broken windows at the house. No signs of fire or smoke damage coming out either. Investigators say the house was closed up tight and the fire didn't have oxygen to fuel it so it smothered itself out. If any of the windows had broken or were open, there would have been a lot more damage and flames.

"To me, that's the scary part because of, you know, what could happen while you're asleep or something like that," Towner said.

Police haven't said whether there were any working smoke detectors but that's got Towner checking his home.

"We got three babies in the house and a lot of people you have to worry about so, it makes me want to check all my families smoke detectors and make sure everything is up to code and stuff like that," Towner said.
