Sonny Rollins (born Walter Theodore Rollins, September 7, 1930) is an American jazz tenor saxophonist, widely regarded as one of the most influential musicians in jazz history.

Throughout his career, which spanned over seven decades, Rollins recorded more than 60 albums as a bandleader and composed several jazz standards, including "St. Thomas," "Oleo," "Doxy," and "Airegin". His improvisational skills earned him the nickname "Saxophone Colossus," and he collaborated with legendary artists such as Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, and John Coltrane.

Due to health issues, Rollins stopped performing publicly in 2012 and officially retired in 2014. Despite his retirement, his influence on jazz remains profound, and his recordings continue to inspire musicians worldwide.
