I have been Using Wood Pellets in my Firebox quite a bit lately and have wondered how big of a difference the bottom up ventilation makes in performance and inefficiency.
So this test compares two Firebox set ups, one with the bottom ventilation closed and one open. The results are interesting, but was what I was expecting.
The firebox with the ventilation open burned hotter & faster until all the fuel was consumed then the hot coals continued to stay at a cooking temperature for quite a while.
The Firebox with the closed ventilation burned slower and lasted longer but went cold abruptly before all the fuel was gone because it didn't maintain hot coals.
I used a QuickStove fuel disk to get the Wood Pellets started.
