FANUC America Authorized system integrator, Esys Automation, develops, implements and supports complex robotic solutions. Utilizing a FANUC CR-35iA robot Esys Automation developed a collaborative robotic system that applies urethane to automotive rear quarter glass.

The end user required the consistent quality of robotic urethane application but lacked sufficient floor space for an enclosed cell with traditional safety devices between the operator and robot. Esys was able to reduce the footprint by half and created a process where the operator works hand in hand with the robot.

Breaking tradition in a final assembly automotive plant, Esys eliminated the need for a PLC by integrating Fanuc PMC logic to completely control the process and directly interface with plant floor systems. A typical urethane delivery system generates a high amount of force which interferes with the force detection capabilities inherent to the collaborative robot. To solve this, Esys developed a hose management strategy and a light payload applicator.
