IHHP was invited by the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet to produce this video, with the attendees of the Garma Youth Forum. The subject that the youth forum was tackling was knowledge and education, wether that is going to school, or listening to elders. These young leaders are learning to live in two worlds - modern and traditional, and want to show the way to the future. Many young Indigenous and Non Indigenous students collaborated to write the song, sing and perform in the video, in hope that people will learn to respect one and other, and themselves. They wanted to show that they have pride in their cultures and can work together. Knowledge is power. No matter where that source of knowledge comes from, or what languages you speak. Listen to you elders, or to your teacher.
This video clip is also a IHHP record, as we recorded, produced, filmed and edited in just over 48 hours. What helped us was the talent of the performers.
A big thanks to the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet for instigating this project. Also a big thanks to Garma Festival and the Yothu Yindi Foundation for inviting us to such an amazing and important festival. Enormous thank you to Emma Donovan for lending her voice to the track, and sing the deadly chorus in Yolngu Matha and English. The great leaders of the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) did a great job in running the Youth Forum, and proving that they are deadly singers and performers in this video too.
Big thanks to all the students and teachers that attended and helped us out(Nhulunbuy HS, Wesley Annex, Melbourne Grammar, Mutitjulu, Nubulwar, St. Columbans and all the Arnhemland schools ). Massive thanks to Sue and the Culture College in Nhulunbuy.
