As Chapter 3: Torneko and the Extravagant Excavation begins, we are taken to the small town of Lakanaba far north of Endor, where we assume control of Torneko Taloon, a big man with big dreams. Although he works behind the counter at Lakanaba's Weapon Shop, he dreams of becoming a great arms merchant. This is a pretty fun chapter.
In the morning, Torneko's wife, Tessie, wakes him up. She gives him his Packed Lunch, a free healing item. In fact, she will give him one every morning. Torneko doesn't start out with much, just a set of Plain Clothes.
Fortunately, when Torneko can move, he can collect a Leather Hat from the wardrobe (time index 1:18).
Outside, Torneko can break the pots by his house to obtain a Medicinal Herb (time index 2:02). Some creep outside seems to have an interest in Tessie. Torneko oughta slug 'im.
The Item Shop is directly north of Torneko's house. One of the pots behind the merchant contains an Antidotal Herb (time index 2:35).
A little farther north, Old Man Finn is having trouble getting around. He asks Torneko to push him to church. When Torneko gets him there, Finn rewards him with a few Gold.
There is a dog in the pen north of Old Man Finn's house. Remember this canine for later.
In the church, Torneko finds out why Finn comes to church so often. Poor old guy.
Upstairs in the Armour Shop, Torneko can find a Leather Shield in a chest of drawers (time index 5:52).
In the inn, the innkeeper tells Torneko about a Steel Strongbox that can be found in a cave north of town. Sounds like a useful item to have!
Torneko's workplace, the Weapon Shop, is in the southwest of town (time index 7:32). After chewing him out for being late, the owner puts him to work. Torneko will get paid on commission for selling items to customers. Some customers that come in will also sell weapons to the shop. If they sell an item that is not in the shop's original inventory, it will appear in the inventory until someone else comes in and buys it.
Starting from the second day, an NPC will randomly come in and sell a Cautery Sword to the shop. This is the best weapon that Torneko can get in the entire chapter, and it can only be acquired if an NPC sells it here. Once it is in the shop's inventory, be sure not to sell it!
Some people will also sell a Chain Sickle to the shop, but don't worry about that weapon. It will be found as a treasure in the first dungeon.
At the end of the workday (time index 14:39), the shop owner closes the shop and gives Torneko his commission. If the day went well, Torneko should earn at least 100 Gold.
Not much can be acquired yet in the basement of the Weapon Shop. There are a few tempting chests behind a jail door, though.
At night, the Armour Shop owner warns Torneko that he will have to leave town if he wants to set up his own shop. He suggests Torneko go somewhere like Endor. Endor, huh? Wasn't someone there planning to sell his shop?
A soldier in the inn advises Torneko that to be a good arms merchant, he will have to gain some battlefield experience. That certainly seems advisable, as Torneko will have to explore a couple of dungeons in this chapter. No bosses, fortunately.
When Torneko returns home (time index 17:40), Tessie puts him straight to bed. In the morning, she will give him a new Packed Lunch.
A new morning, another day of work at the Weapon Shop (time index 18:39). The owner puts him straight to work. Miracle of miracles, a girl comes into the shop and sells a Cautery Sword (time index 23:18). Torneko doesn't want to risk selling this by mistake, so he goes downstairs and collects his pay from the owner.
The next morning, Torneko visits the Weapon Shop as a customer and picks up a Divine Dagger. If you can't afford the Divine Dagger, a Copper Sword is good enough. That Cautery Sword is pretty expensive, but Torneko will be able to afford it sooner than you think.
The big guy also stops by the Item Shop to pick up a few Medicinal Herbs. These will be his main method of healing for most of the chapter.
Working at the Weapon Shop does provide some reasonable Gold, but it offers no battle experience. Thus, Torneko will hunt outside of town to earn a little experience. Not a lot, though. This is a pretty easy chapter.
Thanks for watching!
