Today's long winded Pokemon deep dive will focus in on an odd Gen 3 Pokemon that questions the player in a few unusual ways, with narrative consequences and gravity given to the decision. In Pokemon XD, a trainer asks you to help his Pokemon- but in doing so he fully gives you the opportunity to take it for yourself. Alternatively, helping him out lands you a different Pokemon as a gift. So there's a line in the sand to be drawn- And you can't do both. Should you make like team rocket and take his little guy, or help him out and see what you get as a reward? You can't do both.

Pokemon is a historically linear game, giving the player some forms of agency as they go along the journey, but choices of actual gravity are usually taken away from the player as they are pushed through the story. When the games give you that rare opportunity to walk an actual fork in the road, no matter how small it may be, things get interesting.

Pokemon XD's Shadow Togepi offers one of those options, as the gen 3 Pokemon questions you as a player with the choice to give or take being put on full display. Shadow Pokemon usually require you to snag them from enemy trainers, but this one is a unique case. Shadow Togepi is an incredibly unique Pokemon, a one of a kind even, but it doesn't belong to you. A Pokemon NPC scientist asks you to purify its heart, and in exchange he will trade you a mighty Elekid. It's your call to make, your question to answer.
