3. SOUNDBITE (English) George W. Bush, US President:
"We have finished the first phase of our war against terror. You see, when we routed out the Taliban, we completed that phase. And now, we're entering a second stage of what I think will be a long war. It's the same campaign, a tireless, relentless campaign to deny sanctuary, to deny safe haven to terrorists who would threaten citizens anywhere in the world -- threaten our way of life, threaten our friends, threaten our allies."

5. SOUNDBITE (English) George W. Bush, US President:
"Folks, these are trained killers who hate freedom. And so long as they're on the loose, we're in danger. And therefore, in order to keep them from harming any of our citizens again, we're going to hunt them down one by one. This mighty nation will not blink, we will not yield, we will defend the innocent lives of the American people by bringing terrorist killers to justice."

7. SOUNDBITE (English) George W. Bush, US President:
"Nothing is more important than the national security of our country, nothing is more important. So nothing is more important than our defence budget. I've heard some of them talking about, you know, it's too big up there. Let me just make this as clear as I can make it. The price for freedom is high, but it's never too high, as far as I'm concerned."

STORYLINE:
US President George W. Bush on Friday sought support for his proposed military spending increase with an address to soldiers and civilians at Fort Bragg military base in North Carolina.
Bush said he would like Congress to quickly approve extra military funding, so he can move ahead with plans for Americas next step in the war on terror.
Bush said the first phase of war ended when the final al-Qaida and Taliban holdouts were routed from the hills near Gardez, in Afghanistan.
But he said the US is entering a second phase, where it will seek to track down militants far beyond Afghanistan.
Bush wants to raise defence spending from 331 to 379 billion dollars, the largest increase in two decades.
Later on Friday, the president Bush was to have lunch with troops and watch a demonstration of tactical training exercises by special operations forces before returning to Washington.
