In rural Kenya, agricultural change doesn’t start in boardrooms, it starts with people like Village-Based Advisors (VBAs).
Meet Agnes Kariuki, a VBA from Gachoka Village, Embu County. Thanks to AGRA’s STRAK Project, Agnes is more than just a farmer—she is a mentor, demonstrator, and resource for her community. Through her work, she supports fellow farmers in adopting Regenerative Agriculture (RA) practices like composting, agroforestry, soil health management, water harvesting, and more.
AGRA has trained and supported over 400 VBAs, reaching 120,000 smallholder farmers across Makueni, Kitui, Tharaka Nthi, and Embu counties. Agnes shares how these skills have empowered her not only to help her neighbors thrive but also to grow her own business—selling surplus produce and increasing her income.
