Amp Building Books and Resources

Описание: People have asked me, how did you learn to do this? I have always experimented with electronics. So it has been something I have done since I was a young man. I built a Heathkit guitar amplifier when I was still in high school. My college education helped me learn to learn from books. I will always start with reading to learn any subject. This video will give you a rundown of my favorite books on the subject.

How do you start to build or repair guitar amps based on vacuum tubes? If you know some basic electronics it helps a lot. At least know Ohm's Law and some of the other basic principals and how to apply them to a circuit. You should also know how to read a simple schematic. This information is all out on the internet, but will take some extra work up front if you do not know this information.

Armed with basic knowlege of electronics, you can then start to look at tube amps in particular. This video is a way to show the books and resources I use to do what I do. Not all these books are needed but I do recommend you get Merlin's book "Designing Valve Guitar Amplifiers". You will find it a very good place to start. You can order it from Lulu or from Amazon. If you order it through Lulu, Merlin will end up with more money. Support authors work and make it possible for them to earn enough to make it worth doing.

There are several people who offer amp building classes. Bruce Egnator offers them every year or so. I have taken his classes. He knows his stuff and can teach you a lot in a short amount of time. These classes are a great place to start (but they do cost a bit of money). If you can afford the time and money, you will be happy with what he offers.
